COSCO achieves C-TPAT Revalidation

The Customs-Trade Partership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) is a public-private, voluntary partnership designed to provide an added level of security to maritime commerce. Companies that participate agree to implement security procedures in a number of areas including knowledge of customer base, physical security of facilities, I.T. security, security training, etc.

After joining C-TPAT in 2002, COSCO was validation in the Fall of 2005 with a visit to its North American headquarters, Bremen Germany office, and Bremerhaven Germany terminal. COSCO was validated, found to be in good standing with the C-TPAT program. A second overseas validation visit has just been conducted in Hong Kong. COSCO is again pleased to confirm to the trade that Customs has confirmed that we are re-validated and remain in good standing with the C-TPAT program.

The COSLINA liner agency office and COSCO-HIT terminal in Hong Kong were visited on November 19, 2008, by CBP agents who conducted a thorough review of security practices and inspection of the security physical infrastructure. No deficiencies were found.

The challenge to providing security in the maritime environment remains daunting as evidenced by the capture of merchant vessels by pirates off the coast of East Africa. Please rest assured that COSCO takes it commitment to security very seriously.
